Year Founded
The University of Manchester can trace its roots to the formation of the Mechanics Institute in 1824, later becoming the Manchester Institute of Technology.
Manchester School of Medicine and Surgery was amalgamated into the college.
The Manchester Technical School was opened in the University buildings.
The university was granted its Royal Charter, which merged the Victoria University of Manchester (which was founded by charter in 1903) and the University of Manchester Institue of Science and Technology, established in 1824.
