Academic Requirements

SOAS generally requires applicants for postgraduate study to hold a 2:2 or above UK undergraduate degree. Each student is evaluated based on a combination of grades, personal statement, work experience, and academic references. Students without an appropriate undergraduate degree may be asked to complete a preparatory course or one-year diploma. For research degrees, applicants are required to hold a master's degree in addition to a bachelor's degree. Relevant work experience may be considered in certain cases. Prospective research students should discuss their research proposal with a SOAS supervisor before applying.
