Royal Holloway London was founded in 1879 by Thomas Holloway, a Victorian entrepreneur and philanthropist, who had the vision of creating a college for women that offered an education in the arts and sciences that rivalled that of men’s colleges at the time.
Royal Holloway became a constituent college of the University of London.
Royal Holloway merged with Bedford College, the first institution to be founded for the higher education of women in the United Kingdom.
